LuXor
Luxor (lksr)
Luxor is a city in central Egypt on the eastern bank of the Nile River.
Luxor was built partially on the site of ancient Thebes; it includes the Temple of Luxor built in the reign of Amenhotep III and added to significantly by Rameses II, who had colossal statues of himself erected at the complex.
Luxor is near Giza & the Valley of the Kings burial site.

Long Description:
Introducing LuXor! This map was named after a city in ancient Egypt. This map is quite Large, Interesting & Challenging to play! This Map should be quite good for Online Play as well as Offline! The story goes that part of the ancient city of LuXor was blown out into space by the power of the spirits of the ancients who were buried there in the tombs under the city's earth. The long dead ancients wanted the burial sites of LuXor to remain secret. They gathered together their ectoplasmic power and blasted the city's burial site and surrounding burial earth out into space. This burial site, with the 2 memorial buildings and reflection pond, have remained secret drifting out in space for centuries until Landri found it. Landri thought it would make a very great CTF arena! They were right! The ancient spirits grew bored over the centuries. Now they love to watch and even contribute their input to the games sometimes as well. So be careful! This map has a few similarities to the ever-popular map, CTF-Face (Facing Worlds) that comes with UT. I wanted to capture some of what makes CTF-Face so popular. But, make no mistake; this is NOT a copy of Face! I did NOT use Face as a base for LuXor either! LuXor was Built from Scratch. LuXor has some of the "feel" of Face, but yet is much different. It has the feel of Face with a whole lot more! It has more places to go than Face! So here it is! Download it Now so you will have it for the Online Servers! Capture that Flag (if you can) and Have Fun! After you Download this map, Make Sure you Read the ReadMe file for important Information and Tips!

--- Installation ---
Just Unzip it (CTF-LuXor.unr) into your Unreal Tournament/Maps directory<--(Folder).
Put the LuXor Readme file in whatever folder is appropriate for you.

Here are a few CTF-LuXor tips:
The teleports in the team forts are marked with arrows as to which way they send you.
Arrow pointing up - you go up. Arrow pointing down - you go back down.
The two Front teleports in each team fort on floor 1 each have 2 arrows pointing up.
These two teleports are shortcuts to the upper floors 7 and 8, but you cannot come directly back to floor 1 through them! You have to come back down either by going through the regular line of teleports or by jumping down.
The later option can be fatal if you are low on health or are high up. Ha ha!
There are creatures in the reflection pond. If they are not in there, read the readme file section (above) for how to make them appear. Don't waste your time trying to kill the Devilfish! They take a very long time to kill.
Just keep away from them! They are fast swimmers, ferocious killers and make short work of Players!
You can use the "Crouch" function ("C" key) to hide yourself behind the walls between the team forts.
Every weapon for UT is represented in this level except for the Chainsaw & Default player start weapons.
At least one of each weapon is in each team fort.
For Pick Ups there is:
3 Weapon Power Up; 2 Shield Vests; 3 Shield Belts; 2 Jump Boots; 18 Med. Boxes; a number of Health Vials; 1 Keg-O-Health. (At Least - I think, LOL)

--- Author's Notes ---
This map has a few similarities to the ever-popular map, CTF-Face (c) that comes with UT.
I wanted to capture some of what makes CTF-Face so popular. But, make no mistake; this is NOT a copy of Face! I did NOT use Face as a base for LuXor either! LuXor has some of the "feel" of Face, but yet is much different. It has more places to go than Face! It has the feel of Face with a whole lot more!
This map was named after a city in ancient Egypt. This map is quite Large, Interesting & Challenging to play! This Map should be quite good for Online Play as well as Offline! This map does have a few creatures in it. Some of them add to the action and suspense of the game. Some of them are mainly for scenery. Below I have given instructions on how to have these appear in UT. There are several popular maps that have them included but most people do not know it until they "turn them on" in the main UT game.

To have Creatures/Monsters/Animals appear in a level:
Animals / Creatures / Monsters are Turned Off by default in UT.
I will call these three Creatures from now on, meaning all three.
The following is how to have Creatures appear in a UT level. (Map)
Some Levels have them and some do not.
Open the UnReal Tournament Configuration.ini file in the UT System Folder.
Find where it says No Monsters: True.<-- (There are several places - one for each game type)
Change the word True to False, in All the game types and places you want Creatures.
Close the file. It will ask you if you want to save the changes. Click Yes, if you want to see the Creatures in your levels that have them.
Creatures can be added in UnReal ED & UnReal ED II. (See below)
I saved a copy of the UN-edited UnRealTournament.ini file in a separate safe folder just in case I needed or wanted to easily swap it back to the UT System Folder. If all is OK with the altered init file, delete the copy, for it will be no good later on.
That's it. I have found that Creatures can add some great suspense to a level.

Creatures/Monsters/Animals can be added in UnReal ED & UnReal ED II.
Go into UnrealEd 2.0 & go under Classes, Pawns.
There are Scripted pawns & Bots & Flock Pawns, etc.
I believe that these are all left in from UnReal.
Some maps already have the Creatures in them. In CTF- Bad Neighbors,
I fell into the water & low and behold there were some sharks after me. In Water Temple there are fish.
Some of them are set for "looks", such as Hawks flying in the air or fish swimming in the water on some maps.
These Creatures can be configured in many different ways by right clicking on them In UnrealEd and adjusting their properties.
They can be set to attack or just ignore everything or somewhere in between.
Even their mentality can be adjusted. Creatures are a lot like bots.

A Few Tips for Better Game Play:

Under Preferences:
Adjust your Minimum Frames per Second UPward. YES, UP it!
I have mine set at between 50 & 60. (The game set mine to 28 originally. Yuck)
You will have to experiment with this adjustment as to what is best for your computer system.
This adjustment makes the best performance gain that I know of without a noticeable loss of graphic quality!!! Any loss of graphics rendering quality from upping this setting will most likely go totally UN-noticed when you are playing the game! Also, the game engine only cuts graphic quality if it really needs to under more extreme play situations in order to keep the frame rate from going under what you have set.

I noticed also that if you UN-Check the "Use Dynamic Lighting" check box, my map plays a lot better!
It takes away much of the outdoor lag! (But some of the lighting doesn't look quite as realistic)
This is under the Preferences tab in the UT menu, I believe.

Set your View Bob all the way to the left. (No bobbing, (movement), at all when you walk or run.)
Rendering graphics takes less time if the game engine doesn't have to move the graphics to produce the walking or running movement effects on your screen. This also makes it easier to aim your gun while you are on the move!

Adjust your HUD as Small as you can, just so that it is still readable.
Make your HUD Solid or not at all see through!
Eliminate any part(s) of the HUD that you do not need to see while playing.
One in particular might be your Frag Count. You can see your total Frags when the game ends anyway.
The game engine takes less time to render Smaller Solid HUD graphics than large see through graphics.
Also, the fewer graphics to render on your screen, the less time it takes to render them also.

Set the Skin detail to a lower setting. (If it is on High set it to Medium.) This only affects close up graphics quality on players & bots. You probably won't notice this adjustment much, if at all, either.
You usually do not get close enough to other players & bots in the game to see this difference.
This has a fairly good effect on game play also.
